Integration
BigCommerce price monitoring across every variant
BigCommerce price monitoring connects a BigCommerce store through an API account created in the store control panel. Products, variants, SKU, UPC and MPN fields sync in along with default and sale prices. Competitor prices, stock and MAP violations flow back. Price write-back to the store is enabled per repricing rule and is off until switched on.
BigCommerce connects through an API account you create in your own control panel, scoped to exactly the access you want to give. Products and variants come in with SKU, UPC, MPN, brand, default price and sale price, so matching starts from real identifiers instead of product titles. Competitor prices, promotions and below-MAP listings flow back. Writing a price into BigCommerce is enabled per rule and never by default.
What connecting BigCommerce does
BigCommerce catalogues tend to be better populated with identifiers than most, because UPC, MPN and brand are first-class product fields rather than plugin add-ons. That is a real advantage for matching. Where a Shopify store often depends on one barcode field, a well-maintained BigCommerce catalogue gives matching three independent signals per item, which resolves more products automatically and leaves fewer for human review.

What data flows in each direction
| Direction | What moves | When |
|---|---|---|
| BigCommerce to us | Products and variants, SKU, UPC, MPN, brand, name, categories, custom fields, images, default price, sale price and inventory status | On connect, then on a recurring sync and again when the store reports a catalogue change |
| Us to BigCommerce | A new price on the specific products or variants a rule covers, written to the field you nominate | Only for rules where store push is enabled, which is off by default |
| Us to you | Matched competitor prices, stock and promotions, MAP violations with timestamped screenshot evidence, alerts, price index and position mix | Every refresh cycle on your plan, from daily to hourly |
| Not requested | Orders, customers, carts, payment data and any personally identifying information | Not part of the connection |
Grant read access first. You only need write access on the day you decide to let a rule change a price.
How to connect a BigCommerce store
- 1
Create a store API account
In your BigCommerce control panel, create an API account and grant read access to products. Leave everything else at none. The credentials are shown once, so save them before you close the dialog.
- 2
Paste the credentials
Open Integrations in your account, choose BigCommerce and enter the credentials. The connection test runs straight away and tells you which access level it found, so a missing permission is obvious immediately.
- 3
Confirm your identifier fields
Check that UPC and MPN are reading from the fields you expect. Some catalogues keep barcodes in a custom field instead. Point at the correct field here and matching uses it from the first run.
- 4
Import and review matches
Import everything or filter by category, brand or product type. Matching runs and returns candidates with confidence scores. Confirm the strong ones in bulk and correct the weak ones once.
- 5
Decide where output goes
Alerts to email or Slack, proposals into a review queue, scheduled CSV exports, or write-back to the store. Only the last one needs write access on the API account.
Which identifiers BigCommerce price monitoring matches on
Variants are matched individually, so a 10-pack and a 25-pack of the same filter are two monitored items with two competitor sets. Where pack sizes differ across retailers, comparison is on unit price rather than shelf price.
| Field | Used for | If it is empty |
|---|---|---|
| UPC or GTIN | The exact identifier join, tried first and needing no review | Matching falls to MPN, then to attributes and image comparison |
| MPN plus brand | Narrowing candidates in categories where barcodes are patchy | Brand alone is a weak signal and confidence scores drop accordingly |
| SKU | Keying your own item, the CSV export and any write-back | The item cannot be reconciled against your other systems |
| Product name and attributes | The fallback match, scored rather than assumed | Nothing to match on, and the item is flagged in data quality |
Identifier coverage is reported per category, so you can see which part of the catalogue is costing you review time. Fixing 200 missing UPCs is usually cheaper than reviewing 200 matches twice a year.
Product matching — confirmation queue

Matches at or above 95% confidence are applied automatically. Anything below is queued, and every correction you make is fed back into matching.
Price write-back and pricing complexity
Write-back updates the price on products or variants that already exist. It is enabled per rule, and every attempt is recorded with the old value, the new value, the rule and the response from the store. A rejected write is marked failed rather than counted as applied, because a rule that reports success for a price that never landed is worse than no automation at all.
If you run several storefronts from one catalogue, monitor each storefront as its own price context so a rule written for one market cannot move a price in another. Multiple BigCommerce stores connect with their own API accounts and roll into a single account, with no per-store fee. See pricing for what counts against a plan.
What the BigCommerce integration does not do
- It does not read orders, customers, carts or payment data.
- It does not create, delete or reorganise products, variants or categories.
- It does not manage inventory, shipping, tax or channel listings.
- It does not edit theme files or inject storefront scripts.
- It does not reprice your marketplace listings. Marketplace coverage is on the Amazon integration page.
Where a PIM or ERP owns price rather than the storefront, take a scheduled CSV over SFTP or pull changes through the REST API and import on your own cycle. The result is the same change history either way. For the wider workflow, see retail price monitoring.

Frequently asked questions
How do I set up BigCommerce price monitoring?
Create a store API account in your BigCommerce control panel with read access to products, then paste the credentials into the BigCommerce integration screen. The connection test confirms the access level it found. You then confirm which fields hold UPC and MPN, import all or part of the catalogue, and review automatic matches by confidence score.
Does it track prices per variant or per product?
Per variant. Each variant carries its own SKU, price, stock status and competitor matches, because competitors discount and run out of stock at variant level. Where pack sizes differ between retailers, comparison uses unit price so a 10-pack is not judged against a 25-pack on shelf price alone.
Can it change prices in my BigCommerce store?
Only when you give the API account write access and enable store push on a specific repricing rule. Both are off by default. Every write is logged with the old price, the new price, the triggering competitor data and the store response. Failed writes are marked failed, and any change can be rolled back.
What if I use price lists or customer group pricing?
Keep write-back off for those products and send proposals to a review queue or a CSV export instead. With layered pricing, the price a shopper sees may come from a list rather than the default field, so applying changes through your own process is the accurate route. Monitoring, matching and alerts work normally regardless.
Which fields does matching use on a BigCommerce catalogue?
UPC or GTIN first, as an exact join that needs no review. Then MPN with brand, which does most of the work in categories with patchy barcodes. SKU keys your own item and any write-back. Product name, attributes and images are the scored fallback when no shared identifier exists.
Can I connect multiple BigCommerce storefronts?
Yes. Each store connects with its own API account, and catalogues, matches and rules stay separate so a rule for one market cannot move a price in another. Reporting rolls up into one account. There is no per-store fee, and products across all stores count toward your plan allowance.
Is the BigCommerce integration extra?
No. All integrations are included on all four plans, starting at 99 dollars per month. Plans differ only by how many products you monitor and how often prices refresh. Matching, MAP evidence capture, repricing, analytics, API access, webhooks and unlimited users come with every plan.
